The British Inline Marathon (Championships) is traditionally the final event in the UK skating year (which runs from October to October), and what an event to finish off the year and the road race season.

As this is a National Level Event, there are two entry options for this: FISS Members and Non-Members. Eligible FISS Member entrants will be competing for the title of British Champion in the races; they must be the holder of a British passport or have resided in the UK for two or more years to be eligible. Non-membership and non-eligible Member entrants will receive an alternative gold, silver or bronze medal on the podium if they place in the top three positions in their category in recognition of their achievement, and if a skater in this category finishes the marathon first out of all other skaters competing, they will still be classified as the 2022 winner of the British Inline Marathon, however will not be eligible to be crowned British National Champion. There will be separate podiums for the National Champions if applicable. There are no eligibility restrictions on non-membership entrants.

Open to all skaters, the event consists of a 100m sprint tournament followed by the main event, the British Inline Marathon (or appropriate equivalent distances for younger skaters). Skaters are split into age categories and encouraged but not expected to participate in the 100m sprint, and are welcome to only skate in the longer race if they wish to do so.

The FISS age categories and their associated distances for the endurance race are as follows:

  • Junior (17 – 18 years of age), Seniors (19 years and over) and Masters (30 years and over) – Marathon
  • Youth (15 – 16 years of age) – 21km
  • Cadet (13 – 14 years of age) – 15 Km
  • Pupils (10 – 12 years of age) – 8 Km
  • Mini (6 – 9 years of age) – 3Km

Race times will be determined by an electronic chip timing system. A digital certificate featuring the finish time for the endurance race will be issued to all participants via email. In line with the entry options above, gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to skaters who finish first, second and third in each age category. All other skaters will receive a participation medal for the endurance race.

Please note that there will be a processing time for the certificates and they will be issued after the event.

There will be a time limit of approximately 3 hours for the marathon endurance race. Skaters aged 17 years and over who may feel that they would be unable to complete the full distance in this time are welcome to enter a half marathon distance (21k) instead. Please note that gold, silver and bronze will not be handed out for this distance, however a participation medal and certificate will still be provided.

Helmets are a mandatory requirement for all FISS affiliated events. Other protective equipment is at the discretion of the skater/their parent or guardian.

Entries close at midnight on 7th August. There is no on the day or late entry for National Level events.
