Wisbech Inline Speed Skating Club host the first event of the year on 25 January 2025 at Skaters Walpole Highway, Wisbech, a purpose-built skating rink with excellent maple wooden flooring, and home to the Club itself.
The Contraire race, in which skaters travel the opposite direction to a normal race, and the McInerney and Doggett mass start events make a welcome return for this outing, alongside more traditional lap races. The WISS Club Race is suitable for new and experienced skaters alike, providing an excellent opportunity for those with less experience or new to the sport to acquire some familiarity with indoor racing, and an opportunity for those who already have racing experience to gain some track time in a competitive setting.
Skaters are placed into categories according to their ability. For the very youngest skaters and those entirely new to the sport, there is also a novice category. For those adult skaters who do not meet the speed requirements of the faster categories, but feel uncomfortable competing against children, Category 2A is the place for you.
For the category races, skaters earn points according to their finishing position in each race. The winner gains 1 point, second place 2 points, and so forth. At the end of the race meeting the skater with the least points across the three category races is the winner of their category. The additional races are awarded separately.
Doors open at 09:00am; racing will start promptly at 10:00 am. The Skaters café will be open for hot and cold refreshments and food. Racing and presentations are scheduled to finish at 1:30 pm.
The full list of races can be found below:
Registration closes on Sunday 19th January 2025. There is no later or on the day entry for this event, with the exception of novice skaters who can also enter online, and we would encourage to do so.
