Wisbech Inline Speed Skating Club kick off the 2024 indoor season early with their Club race on 20th January.
This is a club level, domestic race event, held at a purpose-built rink with an excellent wooden floor and hosted by the resident speed skating club. All skaters, including newcomers and quad skaters, are welcome. Skaters are placed in categories according to their ability. The core race programme features the traditional category races, followed by Wisbech’s signature fun and alternative events. The contraire race, a fun event where skaters race in the opposite (clockwise) direction to the usual race format, makes a return, as do the mass start McInerney and Dogget Awards.
For the category races, skaters earn points according to their finishing position in each race. The winner gains 1 point, second place 2 points, and so forth. At the end of the race meeting the skater with the least points across the three category races is the winner of their category. The additional races are awarded separately.
Doors open at 9:00am with registration from 9 – 9:30am; racing will start promptly at 9:45 am. The Skaters café will be open for hot and cold refreshments and food.
