East Midlands Racing host the penultimate event of the 2024/2025 UK Indoor Skating calendar on 9th March 2025 at Rollerworld Derby, a popular, purpose built skating venue.
The programme of racing sees the return of the infamous Shortcut race (formerly known as the Cheat race) and includes a new format, the back to back race, where skaters take part in two races one after the other, with the placings from both combined to provide the overall result. Distance races also feature, with points for the higher categories, alongside a mass start age race. FISS’ electronic timing system will enable the races to be followed live.
There is also an optional social training session on the evening of the 8th March between 5pm – 7pm for those who have entered the main event on the 9th. There is a nominal charge of £1 for this. Please select the relevant option in the registration form to register for this.
This event is perfect practice ahead of the British National Indoor Championships on 30th March 2025 and is suitable for new and experienced skaters alike. For the category races, skaters earn points according to their finishing position in each race. The winner gains 1 point, second place 2 points, and so forth. At the end of the race meeting the skater with the least points across the three category races is the winner of their category. The additional age races are awarded separately.
Races are as follows:
RACE FORMATS EXPLAINED
Back to back race – this format consists of two races, run directly one after the other. Skaters in categories 4 and below will skate 2 laps of the track, one normal lap and one shorter inside lap; skaters in categories 3 and above will skate 4 laps of the track, 2 normal laps and 2 shorter inside laps. After their first race, skaters should make their way back to the start line immediately for the second. The starting order will be reversed for the second race. The results are taken as an amalgamation of the results of both.
Shortcut race – skaters are allowed one short lap to be taken at any point during their race; this lap cannot be taken on the first or last lap of the race.
Points races – Points will be awarded for the first three to cross the line. 3 points for first place, 2 points for second place and three points for third place on each points lap.
The mass start age races will be split 13 years and under and 14 years and over, however there may be adjustments to these age groups dependent on the ages and abilities of the entries received. Skaters will be positioned on the start line with the faster skaters at the front and slower skaters at the back. The race format and distance will be determined on the day at random from the three options listed in the race list.
Races may be increased or decreased as required if necessary in order to accommodate time constraints.
Doors open at 7:30 am. Racing commences at 8am.
