The British Inline Marathon Championships is the final event of the 2023/2024 season (which runs from October to September)
One of the biggest races of the year, and the premier endurance event in the UK, the British Inline Marathon Championships serves a dual purpose: it is both a British National Championship for Federation Members and the final race of the Road Race Series for all skaters.
This years event returns to Colchester Sports Park, a new state of the art facility featuring a smooth track which is predominantly flat, with some gentle inclines. This makes it an excellent venue for beginners as well as experienced skaters, and means it has the potential to enable skaters to produce fast times. There is an on site cafe providing food and hot and cold drinks and refreshments.
Open to all skaters, the event consists of a 100m sprint tournament followed by the main event, the British Inline Marathon. Skaters are split into age categories and encouraged but not expected to participate in the 100m sprint, and are welcome to only skate in the longer race if they wish to do so. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
LIST OF ENTRIES (PUBLISHED ONCE REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED)
ENTRY OPTIONS
As this is a National Level Event, there are two entry options: FISS Members and Non-Members. Please register under the correct option on the registration form. Eligible FISS Member entrants will be competing for the title of British Champion in the races; they must be the holder of a British passport or have resided in the UK for two or more years to be eligible. Non-membership and non-eligible Member entrants will receive an alternative medal (White Championship medal for members, road medal for non-members) on the podium if they place in the top three positions in their category in recognition of their achievement. If a skater in this category finishes the marathon first out of all other skaters competing, they will still be classified as the 2024 winner of the British Inline Marathon, however will not be eligible to be crowned British National Champion. There will be separate podiums for the National Champions if applicable. There are no eligibility restrictions on non-membership entrants.
Eligible FISS Members will also earn points towards 2024 Absolute Champion in their respective age categories; the points from the British Indoor and British Outdoor Championships will be added to those earned from this event, with the Absolute result being determined and presented during the presentations.
This year, the Federation is delighted to offer a new Assisted Wheelchair category for the first time ever, as part of the Road Race only at this stage. Entry is for one wheelchair user and several “pushers” on skates, who will swap over skating duties in relay throughout the course of the race. Changeovers must be made in the “relay zone” only, safely, and must not impeded other skaters. The wheelchair user of the winning team will receive a gold road race medal, with the pushers receiving finishers medals as they will not have completed the full distance. The teams will be invited to take their place on/in front of the podium. The same procedure will be followed for second and third placed teams. As this is the first time this category has been included, the processes for it will be refined over time. More information will be provided in the conditions of contest and important information in due course.
TIME LIMIT AND ALTERNATIVE DISTANCES
There will be a time limit of approximately 3 hours for the marathon marathon/half marathon/10k endurance race.
In line with the entry options above, gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to skaters who finish first, second and third in each age category for the Main distances. All skaters who finish outside of the top three positions will receive a participation medal for the endurance race.
Skaters who may feel that they would be unable to complete the full distance in this time are welcome to enter a shorter alternative distance (5k or 10k for children, half marathon or a 10k for adults) instead. Please note that gold, silver and bronze will not be handed out for these distances, however a finishers medal and certificate will still be provided.
Race times will be determined by an electronic chip timing system. A digital certificate featuring the finish time for the endurance race will be issued to all participants via email.
100M SERIES AND ROAD (ENDURANCE) SERIES POINTS
This is the final opportunity to earn points towards road series winner (endurance race) and the 100m series winner. Points will be awarded to those who participate in the 100m and separate points are allocated to those who finish the full endurance races (mini 3k, pupil 8k, cadet 15k, youth 21k and juniors/adults marathon) which can be accumulated across the road races. Road races can either be entered as a standalone event or to gain points across the series. The winners of the 100m Series and Road (Endurance) Series will be decided and crowned at this event.
Please note that there will be a processing time for the certificates and they will be issued after the event.
Helmets are a mandatory requirement for all FISS and FISS affiliated events. Other protective equipment is at the discretion of the skater/their parent or guardian.
